Salah scored a 95th minute winner in Egypt's 2-1 victory over Congo to book their place in Russia - their first World Cup finals since Italy 1990.

Salah then showed no nerves, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to secure a late victory and send his team to Russia.

And to mark the achievement Salah’s former school in Bassyoun has been renamed in his honour.

Egypt had been 1-0 up against Congo thanks to a strike from Salah before Arnold Bouka Moutou equalised on 87 minutes.

Speaking after the historic win, Salah said: “I can’t really express how I feel.

“I don’t quite talk so much but I’m really proud. Today we realised a long-awaited dream.

“I’m proud I made the Egyptians happy today by scoring today twice against Congo.

“The game was a difficult one tonight and all the qualifiers were difficult games as well, today there is no big difference between every team and the other.”
